Home Beauty Treatments Go Green

Tired of going to the department stores and dishing out $75.00 for a cream that will last maybe a month? Going to the dermatologist who want you to go through a series of painful needle injections just to have clearer skin? Want to make sure what your putting on your face and skin isn't dangerous to the environment and to you? The best way to do this is to use natural products that you know, trust, and best of all, likely have sitting around your house already.

Honey

I know we touched on Honey last week and it's amazing medicinal properties, but did you know that honey also has amazing skin care properties too? Honey is used as an antimicrobial agent, which kills bacteria that rests atop the skin. It is also beneficial as a moisturizer because honey is able to retain moisture naturally. Honey is rich in minerals that nourish the skin, and enzymes to help remove dead cells.

Apply a thin layer of honey to your face and then sit in front of a fan for about 10 minutes or so before rinsing off with warm water. The benefits of a honey masque will be clearer skin, firmer tone, healthier and younger appearance as well as helping to retain moisture.

Olive Oil

Several women have accredited olive oil to their young soft skin. Adding a few drops to the bath will do wonders on it's own to keep skin silky smooth and full of moisture. Rubbing olive oil evenly over your skin after a shower too will help to keep skin soft and smooth and wont dry out as much. You can also use olive oil as a deep conditioning treatment for hair, especially damaged hair. Massage it into the hair and scalp and leave it for about twenty minuets and wash out with shampoo. (Yes, condition first, then shampoo) -- With olive oil though, you want to stick to the high grade oils to avoid pesticides and other harsh chemicals which could reverse the benefits of this treatment.

Lemons

For those with naturally oily skin, try using a lemon as an astringent for your face. It's alpha-hydroxy acid will act as a natural exfoliant for your skin. Mix some lemon juice with some warm water to help protect the skin and apply daily with a cotton pad. The acid in the lemons are pH-Balancing and will help to restore a natural lipid barrier.
